Psychology Career Information

One of the broadest fields in medicine is the study of the human mind and its cognitive understanding, otherwise known as psychology.  A graduate from an accredited program in psychology may work in a few different areas such as general counseling, marriage and family counseling, industrial psychology, social psychology and developmental psychology.  An associate’s degree graduate in psychology usually studies general psychology.  The job options include working in substance abuse centers and rehabilitation clinics, and working with troubled teens or young adults.  As a graduate, you have the opportunity to work as a substance abuse counselor or psychology technician, among other titles.

If you have graduated from an accredited associate’s degree in psychology, you will have an excellent opportunity to continue your studies if you wish.  The majority of associate degree programs are completely transferable to public universities where students can obtain a Bachelor’s degree.  If you are ambitious enough, you can even continue your education to obtain a Master’s degree or PhD. in psychology. Obviously, more opportunities are there for graduates who choose to pursue advanced degrees as they can start a career as a school psychologist, clinical psychologist or a researcher or college professor.

There are many choices for online colleges in order to obtain a degree in psychology.  You can work at your own pace if you choose this option, of course and is excellent for those students who have jobs and are unable to attend courses that are available at local universities or colleges.

An associate’s degree in psychology affords you the opportunity to enter the substance abuse sector, rehabilitation and even work for the government.  These are the places that offer the higher salaries, while residential care programs offer lower wages.
