Nursing Associate’s Degree Programs

Nursing Career Information

As a graduate from an associate’s degree nursing program, you will have the necessary knowledge and competencies to provide care to patients, evaluate treatments, and to complete paperwork in a well written manner. When you finish an accredited nursing degree program, you will be able to then be able to grow within the nursing industry.

Nurses are extremely in demand at the moment but you must be prepared to consistently continue your education by developing skills, attitudes and ethical considerations that accompany this rewarding, yet challenging career.

Normally, there are two programs that lead to the associate’s degree of applied science in Nursing. The program, called ADN, tends to last a little less than two years online. This will prepare you to be able to practice as an RN (registered nurse). The ADN program does provide an advanced track for students who are LVNs (Licensed Vocational Nurses) already. The nursing classes that are requisites within this track can be finished only eleven months after beginning.

The associate’s degree in nursing curriculum program focuses on the clinical part of nursing in addition to the science and laboratory skills necessary for the completion of the degree.

You, as a nursing student, will have the chance to have a practicum in many different clinical settings such as health care clinics, geriatric facilities, hospitals and community organizations. You will spend about four to six hours in a classroom and about fourteen to sixteen hours a week within a practical setting such as a nursing home.

When you are finished with the curriculum and an exam at the end of your studies, you will be able to obtain the associate’s degree in applied science in Nursing and you can apply to take the National Council Licensure examination.

The opportunities that you will receive within and ADN program will include practical work within acute, community and critical care. You will also have the opportunity to practice on patients from diverse areas and have the chance to work with a faculty who is experienced and has a strong background in clinical studies. Make sure that your online program has good support services so that you can connect with them in the event of any problem. If you graduate from an ADN program, you may choose to transfer some of those credits to a BA degree. This is always an advantageous choice because of the opportunities afforded to Bachelor’s degree graduates.
